Menopause specialists warn against dangers of 'compounded' Bioidentical HRT

The different types of HRT prescribed can be very confusing for women.

In clarification of this article by ABC News, Australia, Dr Newson says "Compounded bioidentical HRT is neither licensed nor regulated. This is given from many private clinics across the world and there is a real genuine concern about their safety. 

These hormones are very different to regulated bioidentical HRT (also sometimes referred to as body identical HRT) which are prescribed by many doctors. 

Regulated bioidentical HRT is safe and there is evidence behind its use. Most types of oestrogen used in patches and gels are regulated bioidentical hormones. 

Micronised progesterone is the only regulated bioidentical progesterone available in the UK."
