Education Secretary confirms students will now be taught about menopause

Published: 8th July 2019

In a recent letter from Education Secretary, Damian Hinds to Redditch MP Rachel Maclean, it was confirmed that students will now learn about the menopause alongside sex education and health education at secondary school.

Mr Hinds said “We agree this topic is an important part of reproductive health, and that all children should learn about this at school."

Rachel Maclean has been working tirelessly with menopause awareness campaigners and medical experts, such as our own Dr Newson, to stress to the government and the media the importance of teaching teenage boys and girls about the menopause.

When asked about the announcement, Rachel said: “This is a victory for menopause campaigners who have been tirelessly campaigning and lobbying on this issue for years. It’s been a privilege and an honour to work with them.”

This is a huge step forward in the fight for menopause awareness and a triumph for Mrs Maclean, who's mission is to bring the issue higher up on the government's agenda. Well done Rachel, and thank you!
