New factsheet: Diabetes and menopause

If you’ve been living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes for some time, it may become more challenging to manage your blood glucose levels during the perimenopause and menopause. This is because fluctuating levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone can cause blood glucose levels to spike and fall. This makes it more difficult to keep diabetes well controlled, which has the potential to increase the likelihood of longterm health risks.
